About:

My Un-American Life

I’m fascinated by American individualism and cultural norms of self-reliance, self importance, and self centeredness despite being materially dependent on imported goods. Considering American’s reliance on imported goods, I believe we should be mindful of how global politics and trade relations can personally affect our daily lives. As we continue to live in and expand our globalized society, I urge you to be mindful of the effects of geopolitical and international trade politics, and encourage you to pay attention to the political connotations of material goods.

Imported goods have been skillfully and artistically cut from the gallery images to remind you how reliant our modern world is upon imported goods. I personally support trade and ethical production and consumption at an international scale, and I also understand & support the expansion of American-produced goods & services.

Character profiles are provided to tell the stories of the real people who appear in the gallery in a way that reflects how imported goods support their daily lives.

No matter your stance, I hope you view the images, fill in the blanks, consider the stories being told, and reflect upon your own version of an Un-American life.
